Type Locality and Naming

It was named by Fu Lipu in 1984 and published by Fu Lipu and Song Lishen in 1986. The type section is the Bajiaokou section located in Wafangdian, Ziyang County, Shaanxi Province.

Synonym: (麻柳树湾组)


Lithology and Thickness

The formation, 128 m thick, consists of black carbonaceous slate and siliceous slate intercalated with silty slate.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It keeps conformable contact relation with the underlying Bajiaokou Fm

Upper contact

It keeps conformable contact relation with the overlying Banjiuguan Fm

Regional extent

The formation is steady in lithology and is mainly characterized by carbonaceous siliceous clastic sediments of strongly reducing environment. It is exposed in Ziyang and Langao counties and the thickness variation can be listed as follows: southwestwards getting thinner to 106 m at Pijiaba section, down to the thinnest point merely 39 m at the Banjiuguan section and reaching over 145 m at the thickest point the Tiefu section in Langao County in east.

Fossils

It bears rich graptolites including, in ascending order, the Glyptograptus persculptus zone, the Parakidograptus acuminatus zone, the Orthograptus vesiculosus zone and the Pristriograptus leei zone.
